2012 Statewide Independent Living Education Day at the Statehouse in Boston was held on April 4. The IL Centers asked legislators to add $1.1 million to their budget this year. Steven Higgins was the moderator as IL staff, consumers and advocates from across the state met. After the presentations by advocates and legislators, (and lunch!,) attendees visited their own representatives and senators to tell their own stories.

IL Education Day 2011
The 2011 event was especially important given the poor economy and planned budget cuts. Over 225 people attended. The speakers included Steven Higgins, Jean McGuire, Joe Bellil, MRC Commissioner Charles Carr, Representative Ellen Story, Janet Shaw from Stavros, Peter Ramos from Stavros, Bill Henning from Boston CIL, Mary Margaret Moore from ILCNSCA and Rep. Tom Sannicandro. After the presentations, attendees visit their representatives and senators for personal meetings. Visit the MWCIL Photo Gallery for more photos of the day.
